Phnom Kulen Day Tour from Siem Reap: Waterfalls & Visit 1000 Lingas

Highlight

Your day begins with a scenic 1.5-hour drive (50km) from Siem Reap to the sacred Phnom Kulen National Park, the birthplace of the Angkor Empire. Explore the mountain’s spiritual and natural wonders, including the River of a Thousand Lingas—where ancient Hindu carvings of Vishnu, Shiva, and other deities adorn the riverbed—and the stunning two-tiered Kulen Waterfall, where you can take a refreshing dip. At the summit, visit the iconic Reclining Buddha, a revered stone statue. After a picnic lunch amid nature, journey back toward Siem Reap, stopping at a traditional Khmer village to immerse yourself in local life: sample palm wine and sugar (seasonal), try handmade snacks, and observe crafts like weaving or rice farming. You’ll return to Siem Reap by late afternoon, with time to relax or explore further.

Intinerary

The tour starts with a one-hour drive from Siem Reap to Kulen Mountain. We stop along the way to enjoy beautiful rainforest views from Kulen Hill.

Phnom Kulen National Park: Journey to Phnom Kulen National Park, a sacred pilgrimage site where nature and spirituality come together. On this small-group tour, you will hike through lush jungle landscapes, swim beneath a beautiful waterfall, and see the unique carvings at Kulen Mountain’s River of 1,000 Lingas. The experience ends with a visit to the mountaintop Reclining Buddha. Enjoy a small group of up to 7 travelers, with hotel transfers included.

1,000 Lingas: Venture into the Cambodian heartland to discover the River of a Thousand Lingas, where the riverbed is carved with hundreds of ancient lingas and yonis. Depending on the water level, these sacred carvings appear and disappear beneath the flowing water. Sunlight filters through the trees, lighting up the carvings and creating a peaceful, spiritual atmosphere.

Preah Ang Thom Pagoda: Ascend Kulen Mountain to visit Preah Ang Thom, home to the Giant Reclining Buddha. The air is filled with the scent of incense and the sound of prayers. Explore ancient temple ruins, listen to monks chanting, and experience the spiritual heart of Cambodian culture while meeting friendly local villagers.

Phnom Kulen Waterfall: Enjoy time at the Phnom Kulen Waterfall, where rushing water creates a relaxing natural setting. Take a refreshing swim, enjoy the cool mist, and capture beautiful photos as sunlight creates rainbows in the spray.

Return to Siem Reap: On the journey back to Siem Reap, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.
